Horizon. Oil on Canvas.

I hate painting on canvas. I nearly threw this in the dumpster/considered donating it to goodwill half-finished. I'm glad I stuck with it and I don't hate how it turned out, but CANVAS.... the drrraagg... the textural hell. I really need to just stop buying canvases and give up the ghost.

Oil painting is such a different beast compared to watercolor and it's crazy how varied the experience of painting can feel depending on the type of paint/substrate.

A little plein air from today.

The prairie is entering it's brown period.

The blur of you in the dark
Morning sky, a mango

My home where the water just flows from the tap
And the soap smells like apple

I know who's here by the cadence of the door
Quiet house like a grandmother’s

The sunlight streams in to touch the plants and my hands
I don’t know who I am these days

Our demented dog with the world’s most perfect angel baby ears
Just realized he was barking into the void

Click clack whine into nothing
Lush black coat polished smooth

Soft from all the love

We had the most beautiful hike today at Wildcat Glades in Joplin. I had only hiked a portion of it before, and I didn't realize there were cliffs on the other side. Super gorgeous place to spend a Sunday.
