Horizon. Oil on Canvas. 2026.

I hate painting on canvas. I nearly threw this in the dumpster/considered donating it to goodwill half-finished. I'm glad I stuck with it and I don't hate how it turned out, but CANVAS.... the drrraagg... the textural hell. I really need to just stop buying canvases and give up the ghost.

Oil painting is such a different beast compared to watercolor and it's crazy how varied the experience of painting can feel depending on the type of paint/substrate.

I'm also not the biggest fan of acrylic in general, so.... maybe I just need to return to watercolor, which I actually enjoy working with. Haha.

I made a few little mushroom paintings on panels that will be for sale at Pittsburg Artwalk this Saturday, along with prints and some other originals. These are all based on mushrooms found while hiking.

Here are some experiments with painting with acrylic on a colored ground. I am not generally a fan of acrylic painting, but I had fun dabbling with a new approach. Also, obviously I'm on a mission to paint all of our pets.
